How to Build a Fashion Website : Brief Summary

Here is how to build a fashion website... Note, this is for small fashion businesses.

1)  Find a domain name (website address).  Here are a few "fashion" relevant that may be for sale.  Fashion Domains.  However, you may want to search for other options.  You can find domain name search resources at sites like GoDaddy, Network Solutions, Domain Discover, etc. (learn more about domain names).

2)  Website Templates : you may want to use a website template rather then code the site yourself.  There are MANY website that can help you with this aspect of the project.  Although I have not used the program, I think that Intuit may have a nice selection.  However, I am not sure if they offer the best pricing.  I would suggest you check aournd before building your fashion website with this system.

3)  Website Design Tool to Add Components to Your Site: you can find a few fashion website design tools listed on Apparel Search.  However, this is just a small sampling of what is available.

4)  Fashion Affiliate Programs : if you aim is to make a little extra money by using affiliate programs, you may want to try Commission Junction, LinkShare, or other affiliate programs.   You can learn a bit about fashion affiliate programs at   You may also want to read the earn money with fashion blogs article.

5)  Adding Data : in addition to developing your own data, you can also utilize information from places such as SuperPages and other similar resources.

If you plan to make a fashion blog, you may want to check out Blogger (that is the program I use for this fashion blog website).

OK, above is NOT all you need to know about building a website.  However, hopefully this will help you get started.

Wednesday, November 17, 2010 Fashion, Clothes, Apparel, and Style

OK, I feel like I have been cheating on my girlfriend (, and have created a account as well.  It is true that I have found that Blogger meets all of my needs, but I figured it could not hurt to test out other systems as well.  Hopefully, I will find enough topics to blog about to keep both blogs active... Well, if I run out of steam, I can always delete one of them.  Anyway, hopefully I will be able to post about fashion, clothes, apparel and style on both blogs.

Runway212 : Global Fashion Association

Global Fashion Association Brings International Talent to NY Fashion Week With the Launch of "Runway212"

Already plugged into more than a dozen international Fashion Weeks around the world, the Global Fashion Association (GFA) is set to make its New York City debut this February with its concept called "Runway212." Committed to promoting the most innovative design talent from all over the world, the GFA aims to be every designer and coordinator's one-stop Fashion Week resource. From securing the most supportive sponsors to creating the just-right runway atmosphere, the GFA team -- all of whose members have extensive fashion industry experience -- execute each member's vision, beginning to after-party.  Each member of the GFA network has dedicated production, PR, and marketing teams at their disposal, providing holistic services under one metaphorical and literal roof.

With Runway212, GFA has bundled resources together for designers in a one-stop shopping experience.  From managing front of house to coordinating backstage, GFA ensures its members a seamless and successful Fashion Week experience. GFA has built in global exposure for every designer's show and can also arrange introductions to the full gamut of services such as top model agents, hair stylists, and makeup professionals. By pooling both American and international designers' entire processes in one central place, GFA manages the clamor of Fashion Week for both the creative talent and the attending editors, stylists, and buyers.

The venue where Runway212 designers will showcase their Fall 2011 collections is a stunning, one million square foot former railway station, nicknamed "The Tunnel." Built in 1891 and overlooking the Hudson River, it is a unique space with a sleek, industrial feel (hardwood floors, exposed brick walls) that will serve as the ideal backdrop for all design aesthetics, from classic sportswear to avant-garde. Runway212 has three show spaces at the location from which designers can choose:

"Diane": 7' by 65' U-shaped runway with bench seating up to 290 (132 front-row).
"Michelle": 7' by 65' straight runway with chair seating up to 150 (60 front-row).
"Lacey": 21' by 26' open presentation space with white walls and polished cement floors.

Since launching in 2007, the Global Fashion Association (GFA) has built an international reputation as one of the most capable and connected networks for all things Fashion Week. From high-profile runway shows in Moscow to intimate presentations and after-parties in Oslo, GFA exists to assist its members, the owner and operators of Fashion Weeks around the world, with every phase of every Fashion Week's biannual production and provide opportunities to share their designers with a global audience. Item Level RFID Initiative : Apparel Industry

Here is a brief clip from a recent blog post from Apparel1 from the Fashion Industry Network, "Are you ready for RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) for your clothing company?  Well, ready or not, if you have not already learned a little something about RFID, it could not hurt to get started.  Although I can not teach you much on the subject (due to my lack of knowledge on the issue), I can tell you that their is a new Item Level RFID Initiative under works by a few leading associations and organizations.  You may be aware that many retailers already use RFID, and the standards may be complicated for many small, medium, or large size clothing companies.  Below, will not actually answer your questions regarding RFID for clothing companies, but maybe it will give you a brief introduction to the fact that RFID is growing in importance.  After all, it has it's own "initiative"... Therefore, it certainly seams important..."  Read more about the Item Level RFID Initiative from Apparel 1 at the Fashion Industry Network.

Multiple Fashion Awards Scooped by New Look at Company Magazine Ceremony

OK, I apoligize in advance... I was not familiar with Company Magazine prior to reviewing a press release from New Look.  However, after reading and doing a bit of research I see that this is an interesting magazine.  In my defence, I do not live in the UK.  However, I probably should have been familiar with them anyway.  Afterall, they are part of Hearst Digital.  Since the fashion magazine blog is regarding fashion and magazines, I certainly did not want to pass up on the opportunity to write a blog message regarding New Look and the Comapny Fashion Awards from the Company Magazine.
High Street trend setters New Look have walked away from the prestigious Company Fashion Awards with a handful of significant awards, cementing their position as the leading creator of high fashion, high street clothing.

The ceremony, which included amongst New Look's competitors other high profile fashion brands, was voted for by Company Magazine's online readership.

New Look walked away with a place in the Best Place to spend 50 pounds and Best Plus Size Clothes categories and took first position for offering the Best Shoes under 50 pounds.
The three awards are a significant scoop for the high street fashion retailer, which has continually evolved its fashion brand since 1969 when the company was founded in Weymouth, Dorset. It now has over 800 stores in the UK, Eire and mainland Europe.

New Look have continued to stay ahead of the high street fashion pack by teaming up with recognisable faces that appeal to a fashion savvy market and continue to offer their own adaptations of cool cutting edge clothes like skinny jeans. Amongst the famous faces that have represented the brand in recent years are Drew Barrymore, Pixie Geldof, and Alexa Chung.
This season New Look has recession busting seasonal offers on their party dresses, which are available online. As you'd expect prices are in keeping with their Under 50 pounds category competition wins, reflecting New Look's continuing commitment to providing on trend glam at affordable prices.

Learn more about fashion magazines on the Apparel Magazine website or you can learn more about online fashion magazines on Apparel Search.  Either way, be sure to check out the Company Magazine and take some time to learn more about New Look.  By the way, if you are looking for a "new look", you may want to consult with a fashion consultant...

By the way, you can learn more about awards on Apparel Search.  However, this is more in regard to red carpet celebrity fashion awards then the type of award listed in this blog post.

Bill Gates of Fashion

Wow, you would really have to be conceited to call yourself the Bill Gates of Fashion.  Or maybe, you would be completely joking when you called yourself the Bill Gates of Fashion and therefore would have been not funny, but not conceited either..  What if someone else referred to you as the Bill Gates of Fashion and then it simply would not be your fault at all, and you would technically not be conceited.

OK, it is quite possible that this blog post is making absolutely no sense to you at all.  Well, the fact of the matter is that I wanted to call someone the Bill Gates of Fashion because I thought the terms was sort of cool.  Technically, I have no good purpose for using the term the Bill Gates of Fashion and frankly I do not know anyone that would qualify to be called the Bill Gates of Fashion.  However, isn't a blog a perfect place to write something that is of interest to yourself but may actually be of no interest to others???  The reality is that I am not writing a fashion book.  And you are not being charged to read this silly blog post.. Anyway, I woke up this morning and the term the Bill Gates of Fashion had popped into my head.  So, I thought I would create the term.  Now, I wonder if anyone else has ever called themselves or someone else the Bill Gates of Fashion.  I actually know who is NOT the Bill Gates of fashion.  Do you know someone that would have similarities?

Teen Fashion Magazine Suggestions

Here are a few teen fashion magazine suggestions.

Seventeen The perky authority on all things girl since 1944, Seventeen magazine still provides advice and encouragement to masses of young misses. Although the primary focus is fashion and famous folk, this teen zine is not mere eye candy. Mixed among the cutting-edge styles (and multitudinous ads) you'll find short but plentiful articles. Topics range in import: fluff stuff like "What Will You Wear Back to School?" and "The Ultimate Ponytail Guide" is balanced by heavier fodder, such as "No One Believes I Was Raped" and pieces on having a gay sibling and the dangers of binge drinking. Skewed largely toward a Caucasian teen audience, the magazine's coverage of beauty and relationship conundrums does offer nods to young women of color. The tone is resolutely positive, and amid all the talk of must-have hairdos and hottie alerts, the message is girl power in its most nonthreatening guise. --Brangien Davis (description from Amazon)

Are you looking for the best fashion magazines?  Well, I can not actually tell you which are the top fashion magazines, but I can give you a few suggestions so that you can make your own decisions.

Here are a few classic fashion magazines that you may have interest in viewing:

Allure This magazine analyzes trends in beauty. Its articles stress information on fitness, health, nutrition, travel, design, fragrance, food, fashion, literature, film, art and theater.  Allure is the beauty expert. Every issue is full of celebrity tips and insider secrets from the pros, like what works overnight and what works for a lifetime. Editors pick their favorite new products and reveal what new styles really work for you.
Articles of interest to women about fashion, beauty and lifestyle.
Beauty Fashion
Elle This magazine reports on emerging trends in fashion, beauty and style. Its visual core is surrounded by features, news and analysis of the larger world. Its articles feature information on culture, health, politics, art and relationships.

Flare Canada's national fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazine for young working women.

Glamour  Articles and features on fashion, beauty, travel, life-style, decorating, entertaining, crafts and merchandise for young women.  Description from Amazon: Glamour is the twentysomething woman's "Miss Manners" and charm-school bible, bursting at the seams with intimations, propositions, and warnings: how to dress for a dinner party, how to turn him on in five minutes, how to avoid the dreaded "fashion don't." Glamour's mission is to help the young woman trapped between Seventeen and Vogue find her way to becoming a happier, healthier, sexier gal. Unabashedly girly, including all the things we've come to expect from beauty and fashion mags--celebrity style gossip, hot trends in hair and makeup, quizzes, and quick fixes for everything from broken nails to fractured friendships--Glamour is girl talk, pure and simple. --Daphne Durham

In Style  Articles about beauty, fashion, and media personalities.  Create a personal style that's uniquely yours with inspiring ideas from In Style. Discover the best of fashion in every price range and expert beauty advice you can use to create your signature look. Enjoy tips for entertaining with style and intimate looks at your favorite celebrities - their homes, wardrobe, and personal beauty secrets.
Articles covering topics that include beauty, health and fashion, book and motion picture reviews, food and decorating, fitness, finance and travel.  Description from Amazon : Cosmopolitan (or as it's affectionately known, Cosmo) has sex on the brain. Hugh Hefner is a monk compared to the Cosmo Girl in the fun fantasy world conjured by the magazine. The naughty cover headlines ("151,497 of You Begged to See THIS Guy Butt Naked") are legendary, veritable haikus of horniness reportedly perfected by David Brown, the movie-producer husband of Cosmo's most famous editor, Helen Gurley Brown. Inside, lots of articles will warn you that "names have been changed"--and you won't complain, considering that anonymity frees people to reveal what goes on behind closed doors in the lives of celebrities and average women. If you're the slightest bit curious to find out, say, what "shocking act" 41 percent of American women have tried, or which attribute Leo DiCaprio flashed in an interview, or what sort of "sexified" look might "melt his ice-cream cone," perk up your life with Cosmopolitan. --Bob Brandeis

Fashion Magazines : Why do you read fashion magazines

Fashion magazines have been popular for decades.  Why are they so popular?  Well, for one reason, women typically enjoy fashion.  I really can not get into the reason behind this, but let's face the facts.  Women appear to enjoy shopping for clothing and fashion accessories.  I could be wrong, but I think handbags and shoes top the list...

The fashion magazines not only help with shopping, they help educate the reader regarding fashion items.  You may learn about the best fashion brands, best places to shop, the latest fashion trends etc.

If you want to learn about women's fashion, you can check the women's clothes guide on Apparel Search.  Actually, you may also want to stop by the women's fashion section as well.

Learn more about how fashion magazines can help women learn more about fashion.

If you are interested, shopping for fashion accessories rather then reading about them in a magazine, you may want to check the handbag stores or other clothing stores.

If you are interested in subscribing to fashion magazines, you can find fashion magazine
subscriptions on Amazon or go direct to the magazine publishers website.

Fashion Building

Today in New York City, I saw a building with big letters across the side that says, "The Fashion Building".  This started me wondering if this is the only building in New York that can be called The Fashion Building.  Do they have some sort of official approval to create the buildings name?  Is it possible to have more then one building with the same name?
Learn more at the fashion building blog post I wrote for the Fashion Industry Network.
How does a building owner name a building?  More importantly, how is it possible to name your building "The Fashion Building".  Does the building have to maintain a particular percentage of fashion companies in the building.  Can the building be called a fashion building and have no fashion businesses???

If you enjoy fashion magazines, you should check out the Apparel Magazine website.  From the Apparel Magazine site, you will find fashion news, fashion magazines, books about fashion and much more.
